Helicopter crews to drop pesticide

PACOIMA - Authorities today are expected to launch an air assault on mosquitoes at the Hansen Dam Hansen Dam in Los Angeles County, California was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District in 1939 and 1940. Young man shot, badly wounded

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A young male was fighting for his life Sunday in Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center after being shot in an alley near the intersection of Oxnard Street and Lankershim Boulevard, police said.

The victim, described only as a 16- to 20-year-old male, suffered one gunshot wound. Police said there are six or seven suspects, but haven't been able to determine a motive. They encourage anyone with information on the crime to call the North Hollywood Division at (818) 632-4016.

Deputies request cut in penalties

Eight of nine deputies who publicly apologized for shooting an unarmed motorist in Compton amid a fusillade of about 120 shots, 11 of which hit five homes, are appealing proposed suspensions, it was reported Sunday.

Sheriff Lee Baca Leroy David Baca (b. May 27 1942, East Los Angeles, California) is the Sheriff of Los Angeles County, California.

After graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School (Los Angeles) in 1960, Baca worked his way through East Los Angeles College before starting with the L.A.
 proposed suspensions without pay, ranging from three days to 15 days, for 10 deputies and a sergeant. Two other deputies were reprimanded.

But nine deputies are trying to get their punishments reduced - a move that angered some Compton residents near the scene of the May 9 shooting, officials said.

COMPTON - Two girls attending a family party were wounded in a drive-by shooting between gang members, authorities said Sunday.

The girls, ages 12 and 17, were each hit in the upper torso by stray bullets around 7:30 p.m. Saturday as they stood in the front yard of a home, said sheriff's Lt. James Hellmold.

Both girls were transported to a hospital. The 12-year-old was in stable condition and the 17-year-old was in serious condition, Hellmold said. Their names were not released because they are minors.

With the help of information provided by witnesses, two alleged gang members were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder shortly after the shooting, the lieutenant said. A handgun allegedly used in the shooting was recovered.

Man found slain in crashed vehicle

Authorities sent to a South Los Angeles South Los Angeles is the official name for a large geographic and cultural area lying to the southwest and southeast of downtown Los Angeles, California. The driver, a man who appeared to be about 20 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:45 a.m., said coroner's Lt. Cheryl MacWillie.

MacWillie said the man was shot by at least one person firing from another vehicle. The Coroner's Office said the victim was found at Grand Avenue and 33rd Street.
