14 freeway signs offer traffic info

Caltrans on Monday began providing ``real time'' travel information on 14 electronic freeway signs in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County.

The signs provide estimates of travel times between major interchanges and destination points weekdays from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

``Posting travel times allows motorists on Los Angeles freeways to better plan their commutes,'' said Caltrans Director Will Kempton.

The estimated travel times - based on information collected from traffic sensors embedded in the freeways - do not apply to car-pool lanes, said Jeanne Bonfilio of Caltrans.

Foster care effort gets bar's backing

 gave its unanimous approval Monday to a resolution written by the Children's Law Center of Los Angeles designed to improve long-standing problems in the foster-care court system.

The resolution urges Congress, state lawmakers and judges to take concrete steps to reduce the caseloads of lawyers who represent foster children and establish law school loan forgiveness programs to help attract higher quality attorneys.

At any given time, Children's Law Center attorneys handle the cases of 150 to 200 foster children while in other parts of the nation attorneys represent up to 1,000 children, said Miriam Krinsky, executive director of the center.

Girl's kin seeking probe of shooting

Plea of not guilty entered in killing

A reputed gang member pleaded not guilty Monday to the brazen daytime road-rage killing of a young college student who was shot in the head while driving his Chevrolet Camaro on the Harbor Freeway.

D'andre Keyshaun Moorer, 27, of Los Angeles entered the plea to one count of murder. Superior Court Commissioner James N. Biano ordered him held without bail until a Sept. 14 hearing.

Michael Ryan Livingston, 20, of Long Beach was driving north on the 110 Freeway near Manchester Avenue on March 29 when he was shot and his Camaro crashed into the concrete center divider wall. He died immediately.
