Attacker killed by security guard

NORTH HILLS- A security guard fatally shot a man outside a North Hills bar early Saturday in what authorities are calling an act of self-defense.

Officials said the guard shot the man at about 1:15 a.m. outside the Rancho Grande Rancho Grande is a municipality in the Matagalpa department of Nicaragua.  Bar in the 15000 block of Roscoe Boulevard.

Store burglars get laptop computers

THOUSAND OAKS - Laptop computers worth nearly $13,000 were reported stolen from the Best Buy retail store at 390 N. Moorpark Road around 2:50 a.m. Saturday, according to Ventura County sheriff's officials.

Officials said a man cleaning the parking lot said he saw two men nearby driving a yellow van around the time of the theft. Officials said burglars had pried pried 1

24-year-old man dies from gunshot

LONG BEACH - A 24-year-old man was shot dead Saturday in Long Beach, a coroner's investigator said.

Authorities were notified of the attack in the 200 block of Pine Avenue at 2:45 a.m., said coroner's investigator Brenda Shafer.

A Long Beach police investigator could not be reached immediately for comment.

 Local 848 said more than 100 drivers and mechanics could walk off the job Monday to protest a switch to a new transportation contractor.

Union officials said the walkout would affect bus lines 96, 167, 218 and 603. The Teamsters said drivers are upset about a new contractor, Transportation Concepts, taking over operation of lines 96 and 167. Transportation Concepts already operates lines 218 and 603.

Eric Tate of the Teamsters said drivers and mechanics would begin picketing about 4 a.m. Monday at 3345 Medford St.
