Kern sheriff set to speak at forum

ROSAMOND - Kern County Sheriff Mack Wimbish will be the key speaker at the Rosamond Town Council Information Forum meeting at 7 p.m. July 21 at Hummel hummel

Wimbish will talk about staffing levels for the Rosamond sheriff's station, the Neighborhood Watch program, the future location of the Rosamond station, and the current Kern County budget situation. Wimbish will take questions from residents.

Information will also be provided by the representatives of the Rosamond Community Services District, the Antelope Valley Chambers of Commerce and the Southern Kern Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. .

Information Day at mall Saturday

PALMDALE - Community groups will provide information ranging from living with Parkinson's disease Parkinson's disease or Parkinsonism, degenerative brain disorder first described by the English surgeon James Parkinson in 1817. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Center Court at the mall, 1233 W. Rancho Vista Blvd.

Community agencies providing information will include Secure Horizons, Parkinson's Support Group of Antelope Valley, Alpha Treatment Center Foster Family Agency, The Greater Valley Immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Information will be provided on topics including consumer credit counseling, child care, preschool education, housing rights and employment.

Gunlocks are free to local owners

LANCASTER - Free gunlocks are being offered to local gun owners through Antelope Valley College's Police Department in a partnership with Project ChildSafe, a nationwide firearms safety program.

The college has 370 free safety kits available to residents, with a limit of two kits per family.

Kits are available for pickup 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the police and security office located in the Student Center Building, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster. Parking lot entrance C provides easy access to the office.

Project ChildSafe was developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation The National Shooting Sports Foundation, or NSSF, is a non-profit trade association for the shooting, hunting and firearms industry. Based in Newtown, Connecticut, NSSF's membership includes manufacturers, distributors, retailers, sportsmen's organizations and media.  with funding through a federal Department of Justice grant and the firearms industry.
