The suspect fled the parking lot of Delphi Academy Los Angeles at 11341 Brainard Ave. on a bicycle Monday after the noon attack, said Sgt. Jim Reid of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Station.

He held up the Eagle Foods truck in broad daylight before opening fire in view of Delphi students and teachers, according to police.

The truck operator was shot once in the chest and once in the abdomen. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, Reid said.

Event will honor fallen Iraq soldier

NORTH HILLS - The Evan Ashcraft Memorial Foundation will hold its second annual reception on Sunday to raise funds for scholarships, health care and psychological services for military personnel.

The event will be held at Sam's Cafe, 15725 Parthenia St., North Hills. The reception will include food, live entertainment and a silent auction.

Charter division formed by LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  

The Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  announced Tuesday that it has established a new charter school division because of the growing importance of charter schools.

Charter schools are an integral part of the structure of the school district and, as the number of schools increases, a special division to oversee the schools was needed, according to a statement released by LAUSD spokeswoman Olga Quinones.

Council OK's limit on Malibu filming

MALIBU - A measure limiting movie and TV filming in this wealthy enclave of Hollywood celebrities was tentatively approved by the City Council.

Regulations adopted Monday would require the consent of surrounding neighbors for late-night and early-morning filming and would likely limit productions to 16 days at one location. A final vote was scheduled for July 25.
