Trucker arrested; connector closed

Charges are filed after wild incident

A 34-year-old Van Nuys woman who allegedly rammed police cruisers during a televised pursuit was charged Thursday with felony evading and assault on a peace officer, officials said.

Charlotte Noga, 34, was charged with three counts each of evading an officer and assault on a peace officer and is being held on $375,000 bail.

Authorities were led on a pursuit that began at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Van Nuys and ended on Hollywood Boulevard amid crowds of moviegoers, tourists and shoppers.

Castillo is fill-in leader of League

Longtime Urban League leader John W. Mack will be temporarily replaced by his senior vice president of operations upon his retirement July 1, it was announced Thursday.

James E. Castillo will take over leadership of the group while a national search is conducted for Mack's replacement. Castillo's responsibilities have ranged from assistance with fund development to contract compliance by various funded programs and fiscal management oversight.

Under Mack's leadership, the league became one of the most successful nonprofit community organizations in Los Angeles with an annual budget of $25 million.

Man surrenders after long pursuit

An armed man led police on a pursuit through South Los Angeles South Los Angeles is the official name for a large geographic and cultural area lying to the southwest and southeast of downtown Los Angeles, California. Police followed the suspect until about 2:20 a.m., when he pulled over around 76th Street and Kansas Avenue and surrendered peacefully. The man, whose name was not immediately released, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon Assault with a Deadly Weapon is the term used to describe the act of threatening to harm one or more people by using a weapon (usually a firearm). Here, assault must be differentiated from battery as they are often confused. Assault is threatening to use force.  and evasion charges.
