Placerita Center has Reptile Club

NEWHALL - The Placerita Canyon Nature Center will kick off its new Reptile Club on Sunday. The club will meet the third Sunday of each month with kids ages 7 to 12 meeting from 1 to 2 p.m. and ages 13 to 17 meeting from 2 to 3 p.m.

There will be live animal displays and a reptile-related topic to discuss during each meeting. Students can bring their own reptile pets to talk about also.

Topics will include native reptiles and amphibians amphibians

members of the animal class Amphibia. Includes frogs, toads, newts, salamanders and cecilians all capable of living on land or in water.

'The Odd Couple' auditions planned

NEWHALL - Repertory East Playhouse will hold open auditions for selected roles in the upcoming production of Neil Simon's ``The Odd Couple'' at 7 p.m. Monday at the Rep, 24266 San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the , Newhall.

Free films offered at Valencia park

VALENCIA - Chesebrough Park has begun its second summer of offering a Saturday Night Drive-In.

Library to present books for summer

CANYON COUNTRY - The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library will present Super Readers Books and Crafts programs this summer for children entering third grade and up.

Those who attend will hear about some fun books to read this summer and then do a craft. Programs will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays beginning June 29, and tickets will be available the Friday before each event.

The events are free, but space is limited. Topics will include ``Super Heroes: Exciting Lives of Extraordinary People,'' June 29; ``Fun and Funny Books,'' July 6; `'Animal Stories,'' July 13; and ``Super Summer Reading Books,'' July 20.

NEWHALL - The Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Children's Musical Theatre is teaming with the Repertory East Playhouse for a summer series of fairy tales for children called ``Once Upon a Time ...,'' which will be performed by the junior company members of the children's group.

Performances will be presented at 1 and 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays July 2-17 at the Rep, 24266 San Fernando Road, Newhall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children under 18.

'Safari Adventure' set for July 11-15

CANYON COUNTRY - Vacation Bible School Origins
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is the term for a special type of religious education which caters toward children, usually during the summer.

The origins of Vacation Bible School can be traced back to Hopedale, Illinois in 1894. D.T.
 for children age 4 through sixth grade will meet from 9 a.m. to noon July 11-15 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church-East Campus, 27265 Luther Drive, Canyon Country.

This year's theme is ``Safari Adventure,'' and the week will include age-appropriate Bible studies, games, crafts and snacks. A barbecue will be held the evening of July 15 for all the children and their families.
