Father, son held in terror probe

SACRAMENTO - Federal authorities have arrested two men on charges of lying to federal agents, and news reports said they have been accused of being linked to an al-Qaida terror cell.

Hamid Hayat, 22, and his father, Umer Hayat, 47, were arrested over the weekend and both made a brief appearance in U.S. District Court in Sacramento on Tuesday, FBI agent John Cauthen confirmed to The Associated Press Associated Press: see news agency.

Supervisor seeks crackdown on pot

Warrant is issued in Glendale heist

Lorenz said Pasadena Superior Court Judge Joseph DeVanon issued the warrant for Michael Mason Wolke, 58, who allegedly tried to steal a purse from a woman coming out of a Washington Mutual Bank at 620 N. Glendale Ave., on Friday. He is suspected of later robbing a Washington Mutual Bank at 749 Foothill Blvd. in La Caada Flintridge.

Wolke has served two previous prison sentences, making him a ``three strikes, you're out'' candidate with the current charges. When arrested, his bail will be set at $1.17 million, Lorenz said.
