Eight are injured in freeway crash

MISSION HILLS- A semi traveling east on the Ronald Reagan Freeway at Balboa Boulevard crossed the center divider and crashed head-on into an SUV Saturday, injuring eight people, one critically, authorities said.

The crash, which involved four other cars, occurred about 5:50 p.m. and shut down the eastbound and southbound carpool car·pool

GLENDALE - A car plowed into a nail salon Saturday evening after a two-vehicle collision at Glendale and California avenues.

Police said both drivers were injured in the 7 p.m. crash in the 200 block of Glendale Avenue.

No further information was available late Saturday.

Arson suspected in mosque blaze

ADELANTO- Investigators probing a fire that gutted the United Islamic Youth Organization mosque said they believe it may have been arson.

Federal investigators were called to the scene, said San Bernardino County Fire Department spokeswoman Tracey Martinez.

The fire occurred early Friday in this high desert city, which is the site of the only cemetery in Southern California built exclusively for Muslims.

A truck driver reported the blaze about 4:24 a.m. Friday and firefighters arrived in 20 minutes to find the mosque in flames, Martinez said. Only two walls remained standing and Qurans and prayer rugs were destroyed in the fire, said Seyed Mousavi, a mosque board member.

The victim, Marco Antonio Saldivar of Panorama City, suffered multiple wounds in a shooting at 7352 Vista del Monte Ave. in Van Nuys shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, according to Los Angeles police.

Paramedics took the victim to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History , where he lingered for nearly 27 hours before dying at 9:40 p.m. Friday, a coroner's spokesman said.
