SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Officials plan to reopen the Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Community Park pool in June following months of repair and reconstruction work.

Ventura County Environmental Health Division inspectors last summer threatened to permanently close the pool if recreation officials did not correct code violations, including blistered fiberglass at the pool's shallow end.

The $700,000 in repair work that began in January was winding down last week as plastering plastering, house construction technique involving the application of plaster to walls and ceilings, exterior plasterwork being of a different composition and generally known as stucco.  was completed and the pool was filled with water.

Officials said they hoped to complete the project this week and reopen within a week or two for some local swim teams and special classes, although the public opening wouldn't be until June.

MOORPARK - Six teenagers have been arrested in connection with a vandalism spree, officials said.

The crimes included taking golf carts from a park and vandalizing a school, church, supermarket, apartment building and several parks, officials said.

The six, ages 14 to 17, were arrested on suspicion of vandalism, theft and burglary and were released to their parents, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department The Ventura County Sheriff's Department (VCSD) provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, USA, as well as several cities within the county. The cities that VCSD serves are Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, and Thousand Oaks.  reported. Their names were not released.

The arrests were made after Deputy Amy Ward saw three of the juveniles spray painting graffiti in a drainage canal April 27, officials said. The investigation led to the other suspects.

Three of the vandalism incidents were misdemeanors, but four were listed as felonies.
