Snail bait, a poison used to rid gardens of pests, can also kill pets, the nation's largest animal hospital chain warned Thursday.

Dogs may be attracted to snail and slug bait because it often comes in pellets, which can resemble dry dog food. Powder and liquid forms of snail bait are also dangerous because if they get on an animal's paws, the poison will be licked off during normal grooming, according to the animal care provider.
