Suspect arrested after cop standoff

NORTH HILLS - A man who allegedly brandished a weapon at a neighbor, then holed up in a parking garage at a condominium complex near North Hills, was arrested Sunday after SWAT officers fired tear gas tear gas, gas that causes temporary blindness through the excessive flow of tears resulting from irritation of the eyes. The gas is used in chemical warfare and as a means for dispersing mobs.  into the structure, authorities said.

Fugitive still loose in wake of escape

Expert to examine chimney remains

A forensic anthropologist today is expected to examine the skeletal remains of a ``young person'' found in the chimney of a vacant building in South Los Angeles South Los Angeles is the official name for a large geographic and cultural area lying to the southwest and southeast of downtown Los Angeles, California. Shots leave boy dead, man critical

A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot and a man was critically wounded in an attack in unincorporated West Valinda, authorities said.

The shooting in the 800 block of Duff Avenue occurred about 10:25 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Don Manumaleuna of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The boy died at the scene. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, said the sergeant. The boy was later identified as 15-year-old La Puente La Puente (lä pwĕn`tē), city (1990 pop. 36,955), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles; laid out 1841, inc. 1956. Man shot, killed in Elysian Park

A shooting that took place in Elysian Park on Sunday left one man dead, a police officer said.

Police investigate double homicide

PACOIMA - Police were investigating a double homicide in Pacoima late Sunday, police said.

Officers were called to the 13900 block of Weidner Street about 8 p.m. after hearing reports of a shooting, said Officer Donovan Lyons of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill station.

Circumstances of the slayings were not immediately available. Detectives remained at the scene late Sunday questioning witnesses and collecting evidence, Lyons said.
