CalArts schedules open-house day

VALENCIA - The public will get a behind-the-scenes look at graduate student work spaces during a rare open house at California Institute of the Arts California Institute of the Arts
 known as CalArts

U.S. private institution of higher learning in Valencia. Created in 1961 through the merger of two other art institutes, it was the first in the U.S.
 from noon to 6 p.m. on April 16.

More than 50 graduate students in the art, photography and media programs and the Center for Integrated Media The Center for Integrated Media is a new media arts initiative located within the California Institute of the Arts. The Center was started in the early 1990's and is one of the longest running new media arts initiatives in the U.S. The current Director is Tom Leeser.  will invite visitors into their studios.

Visitors can see where and how artists work, see works in progress and ask questions.

``These independent-minded, highly motivated students represent the next wave of artists, pushing into new territories in a multitude of artistic mediums - painting and drawing, installation, video, photography, sculpture, performance, sound, multimedia and interactivity,'' CalArts spokeswoman Margaret Crane said.

Both half-day and full-day schedules are available Monday through Friday in the fall. Half-day sessions run from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. and from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Full-day sessions run from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.
