Riding accident victim identified

PALMDALE - A 14-year-old girl killed when she was kicked, trampled and dragged by a horse was identified Sunday as a Quartz Hill resident.

Ashley Hyland died after the accident in a riding ring in the 41000 block of 40th Street West shortly before noon Saturday, according to according to

Police can't find car theft suspect

SYLMAR - Police on Sunday sealed off an area in Sylmar to search for a car thief, but did not find him, an officer said.

Single-car crash leaves driver dead

PASADENA - A car crashed into a wall on a Pasadena freeway early Sunday, fatally injuring the driver, who was not wearing his seat belt, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A 2001 Honda Accord drifted off the road and struck speed attenuators at the Madre Street off-ramp, according to the statement.

The 33-year-old driver was ``launched into the windshield upon impact,'' according to the statement.

Boy, 6, is injured in gate accident

NORTH HILLS - A 6-year-old Canyon Country boy was in extremely critical condition late Sunday after being crushed by a rolling steel gate.

Firefighters were called to the 8500 block of Hayvenhurst Avenue about 5 p.m. after the boy was crushed between the gate and a masonry pillar, said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The boy, who was unconscious and barely breathing, was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

The boy and his father had been visiting a residence in North Hills when the accident occurred.
