Runaway vehicle leaves 3 injured

GLENDALE - A car driven by a 30-year-old woman who said she accidentally pushed the accelerator instead of the brake plowed through the front window of a Glendale bakery Monday, injuring three people, police said.

The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. at the Red Ribbon Bakery at 916 E. Colorado St., said Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department.

A 40-year-old customer was the most seriously injured of the three. She was pushed into a glass counter inside the bakery, Lorenz said. An employee and a 13-year-old girl were also hurt, he said, but none of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening. The incident is under investigation, he said.

Bomb hoax letter results in arrest

A man has been arrested for allegedly sending a hoax letter threatening to blow up several government buildings in downtown Los Angeles, including the Federal Building, authorities said Monday.

Luis Frederick San Mateo Dimen, 45, is charged with making a false threat to blow up a building. He was arrested Friday at his home in Eagle Rock and is being held without bail, according to the FBI's Laura Eimiller.

Federal authorities said employees of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement received a letter this month with a threat to blow up the Federal Building - where regional ICE offices are located - as well as the nearby Criminal Courts Building. The computer-generated letter also contained a threat to blow up the Men's Central Jail, according to the FBI.
