Trash processor to build facility

The Sun Valley trash processor and transfer station Community Recycling has agreed to build a modern garbage-handling facility as part of a settlement announced Friday by Los Angeles City Attorney The Los Angeles City Attorney is an elected official whose job is to prosecute all of the misdemeanor criminal offenses within the city of Los Angeles, California, United States.  Rocky Delgadillo.

The company, also known as Crown Disposal, agreed to build new enclosures around construction debris and general waste to cut dust and odor. It also will install rooftop solar equipment and a storm water collection system to capture water for irrigating native plants and trees that will be planted around the business.

Community Recycling previously had committed to building a roofed building that fully covers the green waste and wood waste operations, and includes an air filtration, odor and dust control system. Crown will create a 24-hour complaint hotline.

Detectives probe woman's death

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Homicide detectives on Friday were investigating the suspicious death of a woman who died after being transported to the hospital with bruises on her body.

The woman, who was not identified, had been found in a home in the 7200 block of Lankershim Boulevard late Thursday by sheriff's detectives sent to serve an eviction notice.

Police investigators were called in, but the woman was uncooperative with authorities. She died early Friday.

``We're unsure of the cause of death,'' said LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

Group to focus on health issues

A legislative committee will be formed to address a looming health crisis in Los Angeles County, Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuez announced Friday.

The Assembly Select Committee on the Los Angeles County Health Crisis will have about a dozen members, all lawmakers from the Los Angeles area. It will be chaired by Assemblyman Mark Ridley-Thomas, D-Los Angeles.

Other members include Assemblymen Dario Frommer, D-Glendale, and Keith Richman, R-Granada Hills; and Assemblywomen Cindy Montanez, D-Mission Hills, and Sharon Runner, R-Lancaster.

Search program nets 66 arrests

Unannounced searches conducted under a Los Angeles County program in December resulted in the arrests of 66 probationers and the seizure of 29 weapons, including assault rifles and shotguns, officials said Friday.

Authorities conducted the 315 searches under a program called Developing Increased Safety through Arms Reduction, or DISARM, said Tony Bell of county Supervisor Michael Antonovich's office.

Antonovich initiated the DISARM program following a shooting spree in the Southland several years ago by Buford Furrow furrow /fur·row/ (fur´o) a groove or sulcus.

Jury decides dad defamed coach

A Santa Ana Superior Court jury on Thursday found that a Newport Beach father defamed his son's baseball coach at Corona del Mar High school Corona del Mar High is located in Newport Beach, California and belongs to the Newport Mesa Unified School District. It is a combination of a middle school (7th & 8th grades) and a high school (9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th grades).  and awarded the coach, John Emme, $700,000 in damages.

The legal tug-of-war between Emme and Marc Martinez, an emergency room doctor, began when Martinez sued the coach for allegedly harming his son's college and professional prospects by making him pitch too often.

Martinez's suit also alleged that Emme had made false statements in a newspaper article about the youngster's statistics and performance.
