Crews out in force to make road repairs

A 29-year-old Los Angeles woman whose home was the site of a double- homicide early Friday was kidnapped at gunpoint hours later from a day-care center where she works, a police officer said.

The woman was abducted at 7:45 a.m. from the Hooper Education Center in the 1200 block of East 52nd Street, said Los Angeles Police Officer Adriana Sanchez.

Detectives investigating the kidnapping discovered that a double homicide had been reported earlier at the victim's home, Sanchez said.

Neither the victim's nor the suspect's identity was released, though police apparently know their names.

Murder verdict is upheld by court

The murder conviction of a Palmdale woman whose 67-year-old mother's body was found off a desolate Kern County highway was upheld Friday, along with her husband's.

Topanga to open for a few hours

Southbound traffic will be allowed access from 7 to 9 a.m., while northbound traffic will have priority from 3:30 to 6 p.m., according to Caltrans.

The restrictions will be in effect until further notice, the state road agency announced.

Immediate storm-related repairs to the street are needed due to mudslides, creek overflow, boulders and washed-out pavement.
