BRIEFLY.Byline: The Register-Guard NORTHWEST Corps: No money for maintenance at all ports PORTLAND - The Army Corps of Engineers said Thursday it will begin dredging some coastal ports early this summer but there was not enough funding for maintenance work at all ports. Ten ports received limited funding for the federal fiscal year but the corps will be able to dredge only six, officials said. ``Health and human safety was our primary concern, along with whether or not reasonable work could be accomplished with the funding provided,'' said Debby Chenoweth, chief of the agency's operations division, based in Portland. The Coast Guard assessed the risk to operations and the public at each location, whether a reasonable amount of work could be accomplished with the funds present and other economic factors, Chenoweth said.
