I-105 improvements

up for discussion

Improvements to Interstate 105 will take place next spring and summer, and how to accommodate them with the least disruption to area motorists will be discussed at an open house sponsored by the Oregon Department of Transportation on Monday.

officials will be on hand to talk about the project, which will be the first major work done to the highway since it opened in 1967. More than 60,000 vehicles a day use the freeway, which runs between the Washington-Jefferson Street Bridge on the west to the interchange with Interstate 5.

The project involves reconstruction of both eastbound east·bound

Engineers have proposed closing off one direction of traffic entirely while rebuilding that side of the freeway - routing vehicles to other roads - or making alternate sides of the highway two-way, with one lane of traffic in each direction.

The open house will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eugene School District Eugene School District (4J) is a public school district in the U.S. state of Oregon. It serves the city of Eugene Elementary schools

This weekend's drive will be unusual, because Banner's Blood Bank will team up with the Lane Memorial Blood Bank to encourage people and their pets to help needy patients of their own species.

The blood drive will take place at the Oregon Veterinary Referral Associates office at 444 B St. in Springfield. Dogs will donate their blood in the surgery area of the veterinary hospital, while people give theirs in the Lane Memorial Blood Bank's bloodmobile blood·mo·bile

However, humans can give blood even if they don't bring a dog, and dogs may donate even if their humans don't.

Treats and toys will be given to all dog donors, and humans also will receive snacks and small gifts.

People who would like to give blood should call the Lane Memorial Blood Bank at 484-9111. Dog owners who'd like their pets to donate should call Oregon Veterinary Referral Associates at 726-1100.

Pet owners who want to take advantage of the spay/neuter program may make appointments by calling the Stray Cat Alliance at 607-4219.
