Talk for military parents planned for Tuesday

Joseph Reiley with Lane County Veterans' Services will be the guest speaker at a support group for parents of military personnel on Tuesday at the Veterans' Memorial Building, 1626 Willamette St.

Reiley will discuss post-military benefits and how those in the military can best prepare to receive them.

The meeting takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the building's second floor. For more information, call 228-5393 or e-mail pompsgrp@aol.com.

Hardy plant group to give ideas about late plantings

The Willamette Valley The Willamette Valley (pronounced [wɪˈlæ.mɪt], with the accent on the second syllable) is the region in northwest Oregon in the United States that surrounds the Willamette River as it proceeds northward from its  Hardy Plant Group will present ideas about adding late summer and fall interest to your garden in its series of lectures and gardening mini-clinics.

Birth To Three to present parent information night

Birth To Three will hold a parent information night Tuesday about how to be an `askable' parent.

The class will help parents feel more comfortable, confident and competent responding to children's questions about sexuality. Birth To Three and Planned Parenthood's Mary Gossart, a sex educator and author, will lead this event.

Parents will investigate ways in which children are developing sexual attitudes, values and feelings; examine personal concerns and ideas about handling their children's sexual curiosity; and learn skills and resources.

The class will take place at Birth To Three, 86 Centennial Loop, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $5. No childcare will be provided but infants on laps are welcome. For more information, call 484-5316.

The Parkinson's Support Group of Lane County's monthly meeting is Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Campbell Senior Center, 155 High St.

Fuzhong Li of the Oregon Research Institute will lead a 15-minute Tai Chi routine. John Urness, an attorney, will address Elder Law issues and concerns.

The meeting is open to people with Parkinson's, caregivers, family and friends.

Participants will receive parking passes, refreshments and reimbursement for any expenses incurred to allow them to participate (child care, transportation or other expenses).

Groups offers support

for Alzheimer's, dementia

A dementia and Alzheimer's support group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays from each month from 10 a.m. until noon at Emerald Park, 1400 Lake Drive.

The group is geared toward family members and caregivers of people with dementia and Alzheimer's.

The group is offered by Sierra Oaks of Santa Clara Residential Care & Memory Care Community.

There is no charge and space is limited to 15 people. Call Jo Schechter at 461-4898 for more information and to reserve a space.

Youth gang issues

to be addressed at forum

Lane and Douglas counties will raise awareness about the issues facing today's youth at an upcoming two-day forum.

The `Before It's Too Late: Utilizing Resources to Prevent Gang and High-Risk Youth Issues in Our Communities' forum runs June 21-22 at Cottage Grove High School Cottage Grove High School is a public high school located in Cottage Grove, Oregon. It has a newer school building, opened in 2003 to replace the old high school building that was built in 1939 and held its first classes in 1940. , 1375 South River Road, Cottage Grove.

Lane County Youth Services, the Douglas County Juvenile Department and the Oregon Youth Authority will provide an education, prevention and mobilization conference aimed at addressing gang issues.

Spay-neuter clinic

for feral cats coming up

The Feral Cat Coalition is taking appointments for its upcoming local spay-neuter clinic June 24.

The clinic is only for feral cats. There is a suggested donation of $25 to $30 per cat to cover surgical supplies and inoculations. Appointments are required. The exact location will be announced prior to the clinic. Kittens must be at least eight weeks old. A limited amount of humane traps can be borrowed with a deposit.
