Registration opens for women leaders event

Registration has begun for the 2005 Western Oregon Women's conference, a professional development event for women leaders on Oct. 19 at the Hilton Eugene.

This first-ever conference, meant to fund the Lane County Domestic Violence Council, includes more than 20 local, regional and national presenters with workshops on personal and professional enrichment.

Lunch keynoter will be Wilma Mankiller, the first female chief of the Cherokee Nation.

Registration is $75 through Sept. 30 and $100 thereafter. Exhibitor spaces are available for $100.

Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina forced many residents to leave their pets behind.

The Greenhill Humane Society urges people to support the American Humane Association, HSUS and ASPCA for their efforts in helping pets who were affected by the disaster.

National animal rescue organizations have launched massive relief efforts to rescue animals and assist their caregivers in the disaster areas.
