ROSEBURG - Developed campgrounds in the Umpqua National Forest will be open this weekend, with the exception of Boulder Annex Campground, which remains closed because of hazardous trees.

Open campgrounds include Ash Flat, Black Canyon The Black Canyon may refer to
  • the Black Canyon of the Colorado, on the Colorado River
  • the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, on the Gunnison River
, Falcon Creek and Skillet Creek, as well as Skookum skookum

Willamette Pass Ski Area Willamette Pass is a ski area located in the Willamette and Deschutes National Forests in the Cascade Range of Oregon. Although patches of snow remain on the south side of the mountain, the area will be open to visitors, mountain manager Ray Gardner said. The north side of the ski area still has snow.

Saturday's opening marks the beginning of Willamette Pass' summer recreation season. Some of the scheduled events include the Great Northwest Disc Open on June 4-5, the Where's Waldo 100K ultra-marathon on Aug. 20 and the 12 Hours of Willamette Pass mountain bike race on Sept. 4. The first of three downhill bike races takes place June 26, and the state Cross Country Championship Finals happen Aug. 7.

The Oregon Skyway gondola will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays through Sundays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays. The lodge will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays through Sundays and 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays.

Gallery open house

to benefit animal clinic

The Pick of the Litter gallery will hold an open house featuring art, collectibles and antiques from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at 329 W. Fourth Avenue in Eugene.

The Pick of the Litter gallery is a fund-raiser for the establishment of a low-cost spay-neuter clinic. The organization is operated by the nonprofit Willamette Animal Guild. For information, call 345-3566.
