Railroad weed spraying planned in Eugene

As part of a "good neighbor" agreement with the city of Eugene and several neighborhoods, Union Pacific Railroad Union Pacific Railroad, transportation company chartered (1862) by Congress to build part of the nation's first transcontinental railroad line. Under terms of the Pacific Railroads Act, the Union Pacific was authorized to build a line westward from Omaha, Nebr.  will perform spot-spraying of weeds at selected area public railroad crossings on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Each railroad crossing will be inspected and crossings will be sprayed on an "as needed as needed prn. See prn order. " basis only. Spot-spraying is done to keep the tracks clear and safe, and to address visibility concerns.

Contractors will be applying one of three chemicals: Glyphosate glyphosate

herbicide and desiccant for grains. Heavy doses to birds cause soft shells on their eggs.

The target spray area is inside Union Pacific's right-of-way - up to 50 feet from the center line of the tracks, in both directions - and will include up to 300 feet of track on both sides of every street crossing.

Belt Line lighting work

to cause ramp closures

An Oregon Department of Transportation electrical crew will be replacing bulbs and other electrical equipment on 40 lights along Belt Line Road beginning Sunday evening through Thursday evening.

 to close one lane of Belt Line and occasionally close several on-ramps and off-ramps between 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. Ramps scheduled to be closed at times are at Coburg Road, Delta Highway and River Road.

Drivers are urged to slow down and proceed with caution through the work zones.

Tree Foundation speaker schedules talk, walk
