Relay For Life Relay For Life (often shortened to Relay) is a fundraising event of the American Cancer Society, and is now held in many other countries. It is an overnight event designed to spread awareness of cancer prevention, treatments and cures, celebrate survivorship and raise money  begins at noon Friday Friday: see Sabbath; week.

The American Cancer Society American Cancer Society,
n.pr established in 1913, this national volunteer-based health organization is committed to the elimination of cancer through prevention and treatment and to diminishing cancer suffering through advocacy, scholarship, research,
 will kick off its Relay For Life at noon Friday at the Lane Community College track.

The 24-hour event raises money for medical research to find a cure, education to prevent and detect cancer early, advocacy, and support for local services and programs. Last year, 112 teams raised more than $460,000 for cancer research. The goal for this year is $485,500.

 ceremony will take place after dark in support of those struggling with cancer and in remembrance of those who have lost their battle to cancer.

The Celebration Lap will be led by this year's honorees: Richard Ri·chard   , Joseph Henri Maurice Known as "Rocket." 1921-2000.

Along with the relay, activities for children, food and live entertainment by The Valley Boys and Wheatfield are planned.

Registration is $10 per individual walker or $100 per team of walkers. Team members are asked to raise at least $100 each. Registrants who reach the $100 goal will receive a T-shirt. To sponsor a team, call 484-2212.
