ROSEBURG - Representatives from the Start Making A Reader Today Program in Douglas County Douglas County is the name of twelve counties in the United States:

 will speak at the Chamber Noon Forum here Monday.

Leanne Reynolds will discuss the early literacy program that helps kindergarten through third-grade students learn to read. The program is designed for volunteers to spend an hour a week during the school year with two children for 30 minutes each. Children in the program receive free books each month to keep and read with their families.

The forum will be at noon at the Holiday Inn Express, 375 W. Harvard in Roseburg. Cost is $8 for the no-host buffet luncheon. For more information, call (541) 672-2648, Ext. 22.

Two events cover issues

of domestic violence

Two events in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month will be held this week at First United Methodist Church First United Methodist Church is a common name for the first United Methodist church established in a particular locality. The Oregon Silent Witness Exhibit will be featured from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in conjunction with the Lane County Domestic Violence Council meeting.

The event will include a presentation about the exhibit's creation, a candle lighting representing women who were murdered in Lane County and a reception.

A training session, "Domestic Violence - What You Can Do!" will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

A domestic violence/sexual assault providers fair, featuring local services and options, will follow from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
