The Lane County Republicans are sponsoring a "Welcome Home and Thank You" event at the Eugene Emeralds The Eugene Emeralds (nicknamed the Ems) are a minor league baseball team in Eugene, Oregon, United States. They are a Class A team in the Northwest League, and have been a farm team of the San Diego Padres since 2001.  vs. Everett AquaSox The Everett AquaSox are a minor league baseball team in Everett, Washington, USA. They are a Class A team in the Northwest League. Originally created as the Everett Giants in 1984, the team switched affiliation from the San Francisco Giants to the Seattle Mariners in 1995 when the  baseball game July 23 at Civic Stadium to honor local soldiers returning from Iraq.

The event is free for local soldiers and their families who reserve tickets through local armed forces recruiting offices. Reservations must be made by Friday.

Advance ticket purchases can also be made through the Lane County Republicans by Friday at 342-4166.

 Parade celebrates area's mining heritage

COTTAGE GROVE - The Cottage Grove Prospectors and Golddiggers are hosting Friday's Kiddie Parade for children 12 and under. This year's parade theme is "Celebrating Our Mining Heritage."

Line up at 11 a.m. at the Cottage Grove Community Center. The parade is from noon to 1:30 p.m. along a new route this year. For information, call 942-4548 or 942-2936.

'Mardi Gras' event

set on Umpqua River

ROSEBURG - The Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting "Mardi Gras in July" on Friday for its annual theme dinner. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. along the South Umpqua River The South Umpqua River is a tributary of the Umpqua River, approximately 95 miles (153 km) long, in southwestern Oregon in the United States. It drains part of the Cascade Range east of Roseburg.  in Stewart Park, with dinner at 7 p.m.

Tickets at $30 per person are available at the chamber's office, 410 S.E. Spruce St., or by calling 672-2648, Ext. 22.

Antique, classic aircraft to gather this weekend

COTTAGE GROVE - The Oregon Antique & Classic Aircraft Club will hold its 2003 Fly-In on Friday through Sunday at the Cottage Grove Airport.

Activities will include awards for outstanding airplanes and the induction of two Oregonians into the Oregon Aviation Hall of Fame. There also will be a fund-raiser for the completion of the 1934 Stinson SR5E - a plane undergoing restoration - as well as displays and an aviation market.

Headquarters for the event will be at the Oregon Aviation Historical Society History Center at 2475 Thornton Lane. The event is free.
