BRIEFLY.Byline: The Register-Guard Web cam helps spot burglary suspects A Eugene business owner used technology to thwart a pair of would-be burglars who stole tools and other items from his company early Tuesday. Fred Wittkop, owner of Builder's Electric, spied two men removing the tools, wire and other equipment from his property via a Web cam he had set up at home. He contacted Eugene police at 4:30 a.m. and provided a description of the men's clothing and bicycles and their direction of travel. Officers arrived at the business, located at 195 Madison St., and spotted two suspects. Arrested were Mickey Lee Waggoner, 46, of Eugene, and James Dakota Deleon, 26, no known address. Both men were lodged in the Lane County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary and criminal mischief. Police said the pair had cut a hole in a fence surrounding the property and loaded the stolen property into a bike trailer. The stolen items were recovered. Creswell man charged with menacing, robbery A man accused of firing a shot at the owner of a bicycle that he was stealing was arraigned Tuesday in Lane County Circuit Court. Curtis Allen Zeretzke, 24, of Creswell, was charged with felony robbery, theft, unlawful use of a weapon against another and menacing. He was being held in the Lane County Jail. Lane County sheriff's deputies conducting a traffic stop on Irvington Road about 9:23 p.m. Monday heard a single gunshot come from the west. A man ran up to them and said a man dressed in camouflage had just stolen his bicycle at the Dari-Mart on River Road at Irvington. The victim told deputies the suspect had fired a gun at him when he chased after his bike. The suspect then dropped the bike and ran away. A short time later, a person living on Anchor Road called 911 and said a man in camouflage had entered the house and pointed a gun at the residents before fleeing. When deputies arrived, a neighbor pointed to the man, who was running away. A Eugene police dog and sheriff's deputies took the man into custody without a fight. Deputies later recovered a camouflage jacket and a handgun. Driver charged after her passenger dies A Eugene woman has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in connection with a Nov. 1 crash that killed her passenger. Lori Lynn Holloway, 45, was driving a car west on the bridge connecting Springfield and Glenwood about 2:30 a.m. The car left the roadway and hit a portion of the bridge, causing critical head injuries to passenger John Alan Duyck, 44, of Springfield. Holloway was able to walk away from the crash, but Duyck had to be freed by firefighters. He died Nov. 18. The case was forwarded to the Lane County District Attorney's Office. The charges were filed Friday, and the case still could go before the grand jury. REGION Drain motorist dies when his truck rolls SWEET HOME - A Drain man was killed in a one-vehicle accident south of here Tuesday, the Linn County Sheriff's Office said. Shortly after 9 a.m., James Quentin Carlile, 53, was traveling north on Brush Creek Road about one mile south of Childers Road, which is south of Crawfordsville and north of Marcola. Carlile was driving a Ford pickup when it left the road and rolled over at least three times, deputies said. Carlile was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.
