After hearing comments from Westmoreland residents and others, the board asked the UO to report back in January on its plans to address student concerns about alternate housing, child care and other issues. Board action is not required for the university to pursue a sale, but the board has to approve any proposed deal before a sale can be executed.

The UO has announced its intention to sell the 404-unit apartment complex approximately three miles west of campus. Initially appraised at $15 million to $18 million, the university said it would use the money for future student housing projects and to buy strategic properties in Eugene and Portland.

Residents, graduate students, international students and others have protested the move, saying the university did not discuss a possible sale before announcing its intent and voicing concern about being able to find affordable housing and child care if the complex is sold.

The university said it will work with residents to help them through the transition and said it welcomes the January review.
