Zip-O-Lumber plant

damaged by fire

Sparks from a millwright's cutting torch were responsible for a Sunday evening fire that damaged equipment and produced plumes of smoke at the Zip-O-Lumber plant at 2235 W. Sixth Ave., Eugene fire officials said.

Four engines and two trucks were dispatched to the mill at 7:48 p.m. Sunday, said Eugene fire department spokesman Glen Potter. The fire was declared under control by 8:12 p.m.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, which resulted in "extensive damage" to the plant's electrical system and machinery, Potter said. No dollar damage estimate was available.
