Only one animal still homeless after fire

Lane County Animal Regulation Authority has found homes for all the animals left homeless from a recent fatal fire in Marcola, with the exception of Speckles, a border collie border collie, breed of medium-sized, sheepherding dog developed in the British Isles. It stands about 18 in. (45.7 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs from 30 to 45 lb (13.6–20.4 kg). .

Relatives of victim Pamella Devereaux have taken custody of most of the animals, but Speckles is still available. The dog is about 7 years old and should go to a home with children age 10 or older.

"Speckles was in a home with an elderly person, and would not be used to a home with younger children," said Mike Wellington, LCARA's manager. "He's a wonderful dog and we'd love to see him get a new family. He's been through a lot."

The authority received close to 50 phone calls regarding the animals. For more information, call the authority at 682-2370.
