Radio station to air

recent mayoral debate

A debate between Eugene mayoral candidates Nancy Nathanson and Kitty Piercy will be broadcast at 7 p.m. Friday on KRVM-AM 1280.

The hour-plus debate, which took place on Tuesday at Cafe Paradiso in Eugene, allowed the candidates to ask each other questions and make rebuttals, as well as to answer questions from the audience.

The debate also featured a brief statement by musician Willie Nicholas, who has decided to become more of an active candidate after previously announcing that he was dropping out of the race.

Housemates fight;

one receives minor cut

SPRINGFIELD - A 24-year-old man suffered a minor arm wound Wednesday when he was slashed with a pocket knife during a dispute with his girlfriend's brother, Springfield police said.

The two men lived with the woman at a house on the 300 block of South 51st Place. Around 12:20 p.m. they began to argue about the brother moving out of the house. As the fight escalated, the boyfriend grabbed a small metal rod, prompting the brother to pull out a pocket knife and allegedly cut him with it, Sgt. Tom Borchers said.

The boyfriend was treated for a minor injury to his left forearm. The 18-year-old brother jumped in a white Chevrolet pickup truck and took off. No arrests were made, but police were investigating a possible second-degree assault charge against the brother, Borchers said.
