Shortly after 4:30 p.m., a man produced a note demanding money. No weapon was seen or implied, police said. An undisclosed amount of money was given to the suspect, who fled on foot toward the bike path behind the credit union.

The suspect is described as white, in his mid 20s, with a thin build, light-colored hair and clean shaven. He was wearing a white baseball cap, a white sweatshirt and possibly blue jeans blue jeans also blue·jeans

 Poffenroth, 44, brought the 50-year-old victim to McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center and stood over her in the emergency room while she told the hospital staff that she cut herself while washing dishes, Lane County sheriff's Sgt. Matt Keetle said. After the hospital staff separated the two, the victim disclosed the assault and police were called.

Sheriff's investigators determined Poffenroth argued with the victim, dragged her from his truck into her home in Goshen, beat her and threatened her life. The victim grabbed a butcher knife to protect herself, but Poffenroth took it from her and slashed her, Keetle said.

Police said that at 6:40 p.m., two shoplifters left the store and when the security guard contacted them in the parking lot, a third person confronted the guard, pulled a knife from under a shirt and stabbed him.

The three suspects were last seen running south across Division Avenue.

Police described the knife-wielding suspect as a white man in his early 20s, 5-feet-8, with a medium build and a shaved head. He was wearing a red sweatshirt and red pants.

One of the two shoplifters was described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s, 5-foot-5, medium build, wearing a dark jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt. The other is described as a white woman, with a thin build, dark brown or black hair and dark eyebrows. Police said she was wearing a dark jacket with a light stripe on the sleeves over a white shirt and blue jeans.
