Mike McCarthy said. The chase wound through Springfield streets until the pickup driver pulled behind an apartment complex at 1719 17th St. and ran away. He tried to scale an embankment to Highway 126, but couldn't because of the blackberry bushes growing there, police said. He then ran through a drainage ditch that goes under Mohawk Boulevard. He was arrested as he emerged from the ditch. Inside the pickup, officers found a bounty of property believed stolen from the Crow area. Lane County sheriff's deputies are investigating a number of burglaries in that area, police said.
