BRIEFLY.Byline: The Register-Guard Hottest salsa dancers competing at Cozmic The third annual Eugene Salsa Competition takes its first steps Saturday at Cozmic Pizza. Registration for the contest is closed, but spectator tickets are available at Books Without Borders in the Cozmic Pizza building, 199 W. Eighth Ave. Tickets are $10 for Saturday only, or $15 for both that night's semifinals and the May 12 finals. Until 10:45 p.m., when the competition starts, there will be salsa classes and performances. Dance performances help the Relief Nursery Breakdown Dance Company presents "Global Unity," a fundraiser for the Relief Nursery, at 7 p.m. today and Saturday in the Churchill High School auditorium, 1850 Bailey Hill Road. The production includes music and dance from almost every continent, including African folk dance, Asian fan dances, salsa and hip-hop. Tickets are $15. Music, poetry on display at the World Cafe today Oddly Unusual Persons are taking over the World Cafe, 449 Blair Blvd., to put on a music and poetry show at 8 p.m. today. The show includes performances by Joe Cronin with Gary Glover; Roxy Allen, who finished second in April during the Eugene Poetry Slam; and John Dooley and Brett "The Truck" Shuler. Admission is $2. Brownsville looks back at the Roaring '20s era BROWNSVILLE - The Brownsville Historical Museum will host an event this weekend featuring re-enactments of life back in 1924, complete with live music and horse carriage rides. Carriage Me Back starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and at noon Sunday. Performances are every 30 minutes at the Linn County Museum, 101 Park Ave. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children younger than 12.
