Friends and colleagues of Oregon blues legend Paul deLay, who died March 7 at the age of 55, will gather this weekend in Eugene and Portland to raise money for his memorial fund and to cover his family's expenses.

Both shows are open to all ages and focus on what deLay did best: playing music and getting people together.

Today at Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. Eighth Ave., more than 30 musicians will play during an event called "Harmonica Overload." Money raised will be split between deLay's memorial fund, the Musicians Emergency Medical Association and local musician Mack Singleton sin·gle·ton

The music starts at 7 p.m. In addition to a cash donation at the door, organizers will be collecting nonperishable food items for FOOD for Lane County.

"The show is progressive, hard-driving and overflowing with harmonicas, in honor of deLay," a news release says. Those who will play include Skip Jones, Hank and Bill Shreve, Todd Barnes Todd Barnes was a drummer for the influential California punk band TSOL.

Todd Barnes never played drums for the Punk Rock band The Vandals but did participate in an attempt to revive one of the earlier singers career in 1989.
