BRIEFLY.Byline: The Register-Guard Eugene record label takes off with `Mission' Eugene's newest label, Wondergoat Records, has put out its first release, 2bucks Short's "The Positionary Mission." Russell Tanenbaum, the label's vice president and head of artists and repertoire and marketing, said the company was launched to help local artists who have lots of talent but few resources. "There's so much music going on in the music scene here," Tanenbaum said. "There's a lot of bands that don't have the opportunity to get heard because they don't have the money to put together a good album, or a good demo, and just get themselves out there. `We really thought that we had the means to do something really good for bands around here." Tanenbaum plays in the rock band Hester Beasley. His Wondergoat collaborators are his brother Jason, Allison Hurst and Thaddeus Moore. Moore, who owns Eugene's Sprout City Studios, produced and mixed 2bucks Short's latest release. Tanenbaum says the Wondergoat business plan calls for lots of collaborations with local businesses, venues and musicians. The label has worked with the design firms Dzignism.com and Some Co. Design to come up with album art and Web site design, and teamed up with the campus radio station KWVA. 2bucks Short's new album is available at most local record stores. Wondergoat hopes to secure a distribution deal for the group, which plans to tour the West Coast in the near future. Artist makes old CDs shine all over again Carl Klitzke has found a use for all those America Online CDs that arrive in the mail. The Eugene artist recycles discs into art pieces that he calls light pixies. They'll be on display in July at the WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave. The shiny mobiles are designed to hang in sunny places, where they serve as reflective eye candy. Klitzke sells his creations at the Saturday Market. - The Register-Guard |
