BRIEFLY.Byline: The Register-Guard Concert will raise money for African relief efforts Eugene musicians will team up to support African famine and AIDS relief efforts with a benefit concert Saturday at Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. Eighth Ave. The 7 p.m. concert will feature guitar-and-drum duo Levi Poasa and Adam Bretz, the Skinner City String Band and Kudana Marimba. Suggested donation is $5 to $15. Proceeds will benefit Mercy Corps, which provides aid in eight African countries; Tariro, which offers scholarships and school supplies for girls in Zimbabwe; and Nhimbe for Progress, which works in rural Zimbabwe to improve living conditions, business opportunities and educational access. 'Curly' Dunbar will be honored at memorial Eugene area musicians are invited to remember Arthur "Curly" Dunbar at a free Curly's Memorial Jam at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mac's at the Vet's Club. Dunbar, who died Nov. 1 in Rainier, Wash., was a longtime supporter of the local music scene. He performed in vaudeville as a child and danced and entertained for American troops. Dunbar worked as a janitor at the University of Oregon. He lived in Eugene for about 45 years before moving to Washington. Mac's is at 1626 Willamette St. Library offers bluegrass as part of First Friday Rich Hoglan & the Bluegrass Tradition will perform today at 6:30 p.m. in the Eugene Public Library as part of First Friday at the Library concert series. On display on the library's second floor is the Art Totes exhibit, in which local artists create their own tote bags. The music and the exhibit are free. The program is concurrent with the First Friday ArtWalk in downtown Eugene. The library, 100 W. 10th Ave., will be open until 8 p.m. today. - The Register-Guard |
