 5 north of here Tuesday afternoon, closing the highway's northbound lanes for about 90 minutes.

The truck was at milepost 236 at 3:50 p.m. when the driver, James Frank Myers, 72, of Aumsville smelled smoke, Oregon State Police said. He pulled onto the shoulder and discovered that the truck was on fire. He escaped without injury.

The cab of the truck was destroyed, and the tanks, which were empty, were intact. The cause of the fire is unknown, police said.

Myers had just finished delivering a load of molasses molasses, sugar byproduct, the brownish liquid residue left after heat crystallization of sucrose (commercial sugar) in the process of refining. Molasses contains chiefly the uncrystallizable sugars as well as some remnant sucrose.  to a farm south of Corvallis and was en route to Portland.

Northbound traffic was re-routed onto a nearby road after a brief delay to ensure that the scene was safe and that no hazardous materials were involved.

Couple sentenced for

federal bankruptcy fraud

An Oregon couple was sentenced Tuesday to one month in prison, nine months in home detention and three years of supervision after pleading Asking a court to grant relief. The formal presentation of claims and defenses by parties to a lawsuit. The specific papers by which the allegations of parties to a lawsuit are presented in proper form; specifically the complaint of a plaintiff and the answer of a defendant plus any  guilty to a federal bankruptcy fraud charge.

The couple, Donald M. Malcolm, 46, of Bandon, and Dianne Malcolm, 57, of Florence, reported the theft of $80,000 worth of jewelry jewelry, personal adornments worn for ornament or utility, to show rank or wealth, or to follow superstitious custom or fashion.

The jewelry was returned to Harry Ritchie Jewelers.
