BRIEFLY.Byline: The Register-Guard METRO Chamber seeks nominations for annual Emerald Awards The Eugene Eugene, city (1990 pop. 112,669), seat of Lane co., W Oregon, on the Willamette River; inc. 1862. A processing and shipping center in a farming area, the "Emerald City" has lumbering, food-processing, and microchip and other electronics industries. Area Chamber of Commerce is soliciting nominations through July July: see month. 21 for the second annual Emerald Awards. The awards seek to draw a connection between the success of local business and the quality of life in the local community. Awards are divided into four categories: job growth, community caring, environmental values and innovation. Any business in the larger Eugene/Springfield area is eligible. Chamber membership is not required either for nominators or nominees. Those interested in nominating a business may get a nomination form at the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce at 1401 Willamette Willamette (wĭlăm`ət), river, 294 mi (473 km) long, rising in several headstreams in the Cascade Range, W Oregon.
