The automobile collision repair business is the focus of September's "employer visit" event presented by The Workforce Network, a government-sponsored career program, in Eugene.

The collision repair industry has work for welders, painters and auto body repair specialists. The event will be held Sept. 18, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at The Workforce Network, 2510 Oakmont Way, Room 2, Eugene.

Levi Strauss & Co., maker of Levi's jeans and Dockers' slacks whose sales have fallen for six straight years, plans to fire as many as 650 people in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and Europe, or about 5 percent of its workforce.

About 350 of the cuts will be in the United States, but it is unclear whether they will extend to the company's 180-employee service center in Eugene. The firm is carrying out a broad streamlining, from design to distribution, said spokeswoman Linda Butler.
