Single car crash claims life of Creswell man

SPRINGFIELD - A Creswell man died early Saturday morning in a single vehicle crash four miles east of Springfield on Highway 126.

About 2 a.m., a 1994 two-door Mitsubishi Mirage driven by Ralph E. Ewing III, 36, was eastbound on Highway 126 at high speed on wet pavement, Oregon State Police said. The car failed to negotiate a gradual righthand curve and drove off the highway, police said. The left front section of the car crashed head-on into a tree, police said.

Ewing was wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

One lane was closed for about two hours.
