Burglary suspect tries victim role

LOST HILLS -- Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspected car burglar Saturday after he showed up at the station seeking the wallet he left in a stolen car.

"The city of Calabasas has had problems with burglaries lately," said sheriff's Lt. Pat Davoren.

"Our deputies had been asked to keep an eye out for suspicious individuals. They did that and they caught some bad guys."

The man inside the car was wearing gloves and was surrounded by cell phones and wallets with personal identification and credit cards that looked to be stolen. After arresting him on suspicion of burglary around 6 a.m., deputies found a wallet among the stolen goods they believe belonged to one of his partners in crime.

Three hours later, the partner walked into the Malibu-Lost Hills station, slyly asking for the return of his dough.

"Thank God they're not smart," chuckled sheriff's Lt. Scott Chew.

New trial set in girl's killing

SAN BERNARDINO -- Four reputed gang members accused of killing an 11-year-old girl will face a new trial next month.

A Superior Court judge on Friday set an Oct. 1 trial date for Harold Lee Phillips, Michael Barnett Jr., Sinque Beiama Morrison and Sidikiba Greenwood.

Their first trial ended with a hung jury last year. The men are charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and with shooting at an inhabited dwelling.

Prosecutors said they were among four carloads of gang members who went to a San Bernardino apartment complex in 2005 to hunt rivals they believed had killed an associate.

Child molester gets 141 years

Jeffrey Randolph Wright, 47, of Hemet was sentenced Friday in a French Valley courtroom.

"This is an individual who took advantage of being in a position of trust," Judge Judith Clark said.

Prosecutors said Wright was working with a youth group at Shepherd's House Church of the Nazarene Church of the Nazarene (năz'ərēn`), U.S. Protestant denomination established in 1908 through the union of the Church of the Nazarene, based in California; the Association of Pentecostal Churches, a New England group; and the Holiness  in San Jacinto in 2005 when he abused the boys, who were 12 and 13 years old.

At the sentencing, one boy said he contemplated suicide because of the abuse.

"I put a gun to my head. I was so close to pulling the trigger," the boy said.
