SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield fire marshal's office charged four Springfield residents with the manufacture and possession of explosive devices Monday.

The fire marshal's office began investigating after a series of `amateur' devices were found in the parking lots of the Lively Swim Center, Bob Artz Baseball Park A baseball park, baseball stadium, or ball park / ballpark is the field of play in the game of baseball and the spectator seating areas or any other features around it.  and Ridgeview Elementary School Ridgeview Elementary School is an elementary school in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The school is operated by School District 45 West Vancouver. The school opened in 1948.  between July 31 and Aug. 13. The devices caused little or no damage to parking lots.

During their investigation, investigators determined items used in the devices were purchased at Wal-Mart. With cooperation from Wal-Mart employees and the store's security system, investigators were able to determine the identity of four suspects involved in the incidents. The men, all between 19 and 22 years old, were charged with manufacture of a destructive device A destructive device is a firearm or explosive device that, in the United States, is regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. Examples of destructive devices are grenades, and firearms with a bore over one half of an inch, including some semi-automatic shotguns.  and possession of a destructive device, both felonies.

In addition to Wal-Mart, the fire marshals' office received assistance from the Springfield Police Department, Eugene Metro Bomb Unit, Willamalane Park and Recreation District, and Springfield Public Schools The Springfield Public Schools is a comprehensive community public school district serving students in Kindergarten through 12th grade from Springfield Township, in Union County, New Jersey, United States. .
