Springfield man charged in hit-and-run case

 a 76-year-old Creswell man 18 months ago was arraigned this week in connection with the case. Mathew David Granger, 28, of Spring- field was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree burglary burglary, at common law, the breaking and entering of a dwelling house of another at night with the intent to commit a felony, whether the intent is carried out or not. , and failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person.

On Feb. 14, 2006, the Lane County sheriff's office received a report of a hit-and-run at the Emerald Valley Storage facility on North Mill Street in Creswell.

 he caught inside his storage unit. He was driving in the area of his storage unit about 12:43 p.m. when the victim noticed someone inside, deputies said at the time.

The victim parked his car diagonally in front of the truck and ordered the suspects to remain inside the unit until police arrived.

Instead, the burglar BURGLAR. One who commits a burglary. (q. v.)  pushed past the victim, got in the truck, rammed the victim's car and drove away.

A short time later Springfield police found a vehicle thought to be involved in the incident. That vehicle led deputies to identify Granger. He was being held Friday in the Lane County Jail.
