Firefighters quell 2-acre brush fire

SHERMAN OAKS -- A brush fire burned up to 2 acres Thursday night in the Sepulveda Basin, but there were no injuries and no structures were ever threatened, authorities said.

No-contest plea to hitting woman

VAN NUYS -- A motorist who rammed a pregnant woman with her car after a confrontation over a fender-bender pleaded no contest Thursday to felony charges.

Julia Lunney-Rowland entered her plea to one felony count each of assault by force likely to produce great bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident, a court clerk said.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 21 at the Van Nuys courthouse.

Babinec ended up on the hood of Lunney-Rowland's car, then rolled onto the sidewalk as the defendant drove away in her silver Saturn, police reported.
