Passengers hurt as bus, car crash

RESEDA -- Two Orange Line passengers with complaints of neck pain were transported to a local hospital Wednesday after a commuter bus and a car collided, authorities said.

Assaults on cops worry council

Concerned about the recent spike in attacks on police, city officials called Wednesday for a review of state laws to see how they can be toughened to try to deter the assaults.

Deputy Chief Gary Brennan said there have been 292 assaults against officers this year involving guns, knives and other weapons, and 17 incidents in which officers were targeted by gunfire.

New traffic office funding approved

PANORAMA CITY -- Councilman Tony Cardenas won unanimous approval Wednesday for $2 million to complete the Los Angeles Police Department's Operations-Valley Bureau Headquarters and Valley Traffic Division Facility.

The facility will be the first to house all the Valley's traffic operations in one place. It is scheduled to open in October, but funding had not been allocated to finish the project.

With the passage of Wednesday's motion, contractors will be paid to complete the installation of furniture and telecommunications equipment.
