Fall from rooftop hurts 2-year-old

LANCASTER -- A toddler who fell from the roof of a building in Lancaster on Thursday evening was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , sheriff's deputies said.

The 2-year-old girl, whose name was not released, was in stable condition with unspecified Adj. 1. unspecified - not stated explicitly or in detail; "threatened unspecified reprisals"

 injuries, authorities said.

The girl fell from an abandoned building on Avenue K-4 and Division Street, authorities said.

Public help asked in finding tortoise tortoise (tôr`təs), common name for a terrestrial turtle, especially one of the family Testudinidae. Tortoises inhabit warm regions of all continents except Australia.  

LANCASTER -- Sheriff's deputies are asking for the public's help finding burglars who stole a large tortoise from a Lancaster home this week.

The Sulcatta African spurred tortoise The African Spurred Tortoise, also called the African Spur Thigh Tortoise, (Geochelone sulcata) is a species of tortoise which inhabits the southern edge of the Sahara desert, in northern Africa.  was taken from a home in the 2700 block of West Avenue L-4, authorities said. It was last seen at 2 p.m. Tuesday and the owners realized at 11 a.m. the next day that it was missing. A chain-link fence at the home was damaged.

The tortoise weighs about 50 pounds and is 18 inches in diameter. Its estimated value is $200.

Anyone with information about the missing tortoise is asked to call the Lancaster's sheriff's station (661) 948-8466.
