The baby and mother were taken to the hospital after a difficult home childbirth with a midwife, Springfield fire officials said.

Negotiators for the Lane Transit District A transit district or transit authority is a special-purpose district organized as either a corporation chartered by statute, or a government agency, created for the purpose of providing public transportation within a specific region.  and the Amalgamated Transit Union The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) is a labor union in the United States and Canada, representing workers in the transit system and other industries.

The parties met for a fifth time on Monday, and have scheduled sessions for June 28 or 29 and July 13. LTD's board of directors plans to meet with legal counsel to discuss the negotiations in a nonpublic session tonight.

LTD spokesman Andy Vobora said Monday's session "went well. Both sides continue to work toward an agreement. Additional sessions have been set and we are hopeful for resolution."

Union workers' current contract expires June 30. The union represents 244 of LTD's 323 workers, including bus drivers, maintenance workers and customer service representatives.

The district and union endured a one-week strike before reaching agreement on their current contract in 2005.

Albany woman identified

in I-5 head-on accident

HARRISBURG - A woman critically injured Monday when a northbound motorist crossed the Interstate 5 median and struck her car head-on north of Harrisburg has been identified as Sara Rebekah Stokes, 25, of Albany.

The 4 p.m. crash closed the freeway briefly. Police are still investigating why the northbound driver, Robert L. Connell, 41, of Portland, lost control.
