FOOTBALL: Notre Dame freshman quarterback Jimmy Clausen (Oaks Christian) underwent a medical procedure on an elbow but would be ready when fall practice begins Aug. 6, according to an ESPN.com report.

In January, the Miami Herald reported Clausen had bone spurs in his right, throwing elbow. In March, Clausen's father, Jim Clausen Sr., told the Chicago Sun-Times that his son had played through a non-specificied arm injury during his senior year of high school and that various options would be considered if discomfort continued.

Last week, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis announced Clausen, redshirt freshman Demetrius Jones and junior Evan Sharpley would compete for the starting position.
