Hottest salsa dancers

competing at Cozmic

The third annual Eugene Salsa Competition takes its first steps Saturday at Cozmic Pizza.

Registration for the contest is closed, but spectator tickets are available at Books Without Borders A number of NGOs have adopted the "Without Borders" tag, inspired by Doctors without Borders.

Tickets are $10 for Saturday only, or $15 for both that night's semifinals and the May 12 finals.

Until 10:45 p.m., when the competition starts, there will be salsa classes and performances.

Dance performances

help the Relief Nursery

Breakdown Dance Company presents "Global Unity," a fundraiser for the Relief Nursery, at 7 p.m. today and Saturday in the Churchill High School auditorium, 1850 Bailey Hill Road.

The production includes music and dance from almost every continent, including African folk dance folk dance, primitive, tribal, or ethnic form of the dance, sometimes the survival of some ancient ceremony or festival. The term is used also to include characteristic national dances, country dances, and figure dances in costume to folk tunes. , Asian fan dances, salsa and hip-hop. Tickets are $15.

Oddly Unusual Persons are taking over the World Cafe, 449 Blair Blvd., to put on a music and poetry show at 8 p.m. today.

The show includes performances by Joe Cronin
    Joseph Edward Cronin (October 12, 1906 – September 7, 1984) was a Major League Baseball player from 1926 to 1945 and manager from 1933 to 1947. He was a shortstop and was an All-Star seven times.
     with Gary Glover Gary Glover (December 3, 1976 in Cleveland, Ohio) is a pitcher who currently plays for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He has a career Major League earned run average of 4.92 over 6 seasons, including time spent with the Anaheim Angels, the Chicago White Sox, the Milwaukee Brewers, and ; Roxy Allen, who finished second in April during the Eugene Poetry Slam poetry slam

    A spoken-word poetry competition.
    ; and John Dooley and Brett "The Truck" Shuler.

    Admission is $2.

    Brownsville looks back

    at the Roaring '20s era

    BROWNSVILLE - The Brownsville Historical Museum will host an event this weekend featuring re-enactments of life back in 1924, complete with live music and horse carriage rides.

    Carriage Me Back starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and at noon Sunday. Performances are every 30 minutes at the Linn County Linn County is the name of four counties in the United States:
    • Linn County, Iowa
    • Linn County, Kansas
    • Linn County, Missouri
    • Linn County, Oregon
     Museum, 101 Park Ave.

    Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children younger than 12. Babies get in for free.
